Produce at Pike Place

11X14 Watercolor on Canvas

So many wonderful sights, sounds and smells at the Pike Place Market in Seattle. I gathered a lot of images on my afternoon trip through the bustling market on the Seattle waterfront for several future paintings. I enjoyed making small watercolor studies while standing among the crowd of tourists and locals all jostling for fresh fish, crab, clams produce and flowers.

Breakfast

11X14 Watercolor on stretched canvas

I've always loved how watercolor does what it wants to do - painting with watercolor on canvas has added some excitement to the already unpredictable process. Knowing that I wanted to eat this grapefruit made for a spontaneous, fast and uncomplicated painting and working four spheres first thing in the morning was a real brain-teaser - almost didn't need any coffee...almost.

Silver Springs Falls

A hike to the top of Silver Springs Waterfall was well worth the effort as I stood almost under the falls with mist spraying over me. Near Entiat in Eastern Washington there is a distinct difference in Evergreen trees and of course that there is more sunshine - always a good thing.

Tulare Sunset

Sunset over the water is one of the most exciting and challenging images to capture. The light changes so quickly that it becomes confusing unless you stick with the "first impression" of the scene in your mind's eye.

Hiking to Washington Pass in the North Cascades provided inspiring images for this and future paintings.
